It is reliably learnt that the owners of Uma theatre in Chamrajpet are planning to demolish it and build a mall and mini multiplex in its place. Sources said that the owners have already applied for permission to demolish the existing structure. If the permission is not given or application rejected in three months, it is deemed to have been granted.
However, there is a legal problem. There is a court case between the owners and lease holders who are running the theatre. Owners claim that the lease has expired but lease holders contend that it runs till 2015. In either case, Uma theatre will become part of history within three months or in two years.
